In the game Tan-tan Caravan, the players are merchants in the market. They try to get hold of the most attractive goods and then distribute them again via the caravan. The aim of the game is to add the most valuable goods to its own range.

There are two possible actions in the Tan-tan Caravan board game:
- buy goods and take them in your hand (with a limit of 7 cards),
- place goods in the caravan from your hand (= deliver).
When a caravan is full, it is divided. Whoever has filled the caravan may choose one good and take all cards from that good. These cards are placed face up in front of the player and contain points. The following players may then also choose a good, but they are required to also bring a rat if there are rats in the caravan. A rat immediately eats a (points) card that is in front of a player.
A special figure that you can also encounter in the caravan is the thief. Whoever chooses the thief may steal a card from another player's hand and immediately place the card face up in front of him.

At the end of the game, the points that are on the cards in front of the player are counted. Extra points can be earned by owning a majority of goods. The player who has the most valuable assortment of goods (with the most points) wins the Tan-tan Caravan game.
